Nick Allen is the Directing Attorney of the Institutions Project of Columbia Legal Services, a statewide nonprofit civil legal aid program in Washington State. The Project focuses on the civil rights and civil legal needs of institutionalized people, especially those in prisons and jails, and removing barriers to community reentry for people formerly incarcerated. He is an expert in the legal financial obligations (LFOs) – the fees, fines and restitution imposed by the court as part of a criminal judgment and sentence; has worked on issues related to juvenile life without parole in Washington State. Additionally, as a Youth Justice Leadership Institute fellow, he advocates for policies that change the way youth are transferred to and sentenced in the adult criminal justice system.
